The Creators
Breathe Films is an independent film production company created by film makers Richard Pakleppa and Catherine Meyburgh in 2016 with the purpose of making an impact documentary about the hidden epidemic of silicosis and TB in Southern Africa. Catherine has worked as an editor, film maker and projection designer in South Africa since the mid-80’s. Richard has made films in Namibia, Angola, Botswana and Brazil since the early 1990’s.
The film was made over 3 years of research and filming in South Africa, Mozambique, Lesotho and Swaziland.
Instrumental to the realisation of the project was through the active support of and collaboration with para-legals, class action lawyers fighting for the rights of miners, ex-miner organisations, medical doctors, activists, archivists, academics and researchers.

The film was jointly directed and produced by Catherine Meyburgh and Richard Pakleppa.
